Here
I am at the Baseball Hall of Fame, in Cooperstown, New York. I'm
with the Mighty Casey from "Casey at the Bat" by Ernest Lawrence
Thayer. The Mighty Casey also doubles as Tim Wiles, crackerjack
researcher at The Hall of Fame. Whenever I have a question about
baseball, for my column or my books, I turn to the researchers at
the Hall of Fame, especially Tim and Scot Mondore. Library Director
Jim Gates has also been a big help to me.

I write a weekly
sports column for kids in The Washington Post. It's called,
The Score, and it appears every Friday on the KidsPost page
and online at www.washingtonpost.com/kidspost.
I'm a big sports
fan and always have been. I played Little League in elementary school,
soccer and golf in high school, and pick-up basketball through college,
law school, and beyond. Ever since I could read, I have followed
the pros in newspapers, magazines, books, and on TV.
Sports have
greatly enriched my life and my columns give me a chance to share
my enthusiasm with young readers. I know that today's kids take
their sports very seriously. I'm the father of two sports-crazy
kids and the baseball coach of fourteen.
My column debuted
on April 14, 2000. That was the week, The Washington Post
launched its KidsPost page. You can check out my past columns by
