The Reviews

Washington Parent: As with all Bowen's baseball and basketball titles, this one is marked by fast action and believable contemporary characters. The short section in the back on the history of women's basketball makes for especially interesting reading. Mary Quattlebaum

The Story

Chris needs help with his basketball game. He's spending too much time on the bench. He turns to his friend Greta — the star forward on the girls' team — for some shooting lessons. But even her expert tips can't make Chris's shots go in. Then he gets some interesting advice from a very unlikely source. But can that advice work for Chris?

The History

Girls basketball used to be very different from boys basketball. Girls weren't allowed to cross the center line. They were either forwards or guards and stayed on one side of the court or the other. Some star players never scored a point! They were hard-charging, game-saving guards. They knew what some kids forget: There is glory in defense!
